How do you support a GM without waiting to be told?
Sample answer
I treat the floor as mine when I’m on. I don’t wait for a list. I walk the store at the start of my shift, I fix what the last close left messy, and I tell the GM what I already handled so they aren’t rediscovering it. I protect their office time when they need it, and I pull them out when the floor actually needs a manager. Good ASMs make the GM’s day quieter without making the team feel like there’s no boss.

Sample answer
Open: lights, registers, a fast walk for safety and visual, then who is where before the door unlocks. I don’t unlock until someone can greet. Close: fitting rooms empty, counts done, floor recovered enough that the next open isn’t a punishment, cash handled, doors checked. I leave a note that a human can use — not a novel, not nothing. If I’m the last key, I don’t rush the last ten minutes. That’s when mistakes happen.
